I really enjoyed reading The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. Bringing awareness to my own life, I could see how many of things Rhonda writes about has happened to me. What stood out for me is the very first chapter. It is summed up on page 25 in Secret Summaries. “Your current thoughts are creating your future life. What you think about the most or focus on the most most will appear as your life. I can see that when I believe I can do something I do and when I think I can’t I don’t.
The chapter, The Secret to Relationships, was also an eye opener. Dr John Gray says “You become the Solution for you” It was an eye opening idea that if my relationship isn’t working the other person is not to blame and that I need to look at me. This brought to mind another book I’ve read and highly recommend:How To Create a Magical Relationship” Ariel & Shya’s book is brilliantly written and guides the reader in how to have a Magical Relationship and how having a magical relationship is up to you and not your partner.

The higher human virtues- love, joy, compassion etc. can so easily fall prey to cynicism. We see many examples in the world where they fall short.
In ‘The Secret’, Jack Canfield declares that he lives his life through joy: “If it ain’t fun,don’t do it!” In terms of positivity or negativity he has made a choice. We can do the same.
It is easy to highlight the seeming conflict between spirituality and materialism. Actually,there is none. This is a mindset. As the book says, if you really need a million dollars, ask for it.
Isn’t this the point? To ask yourself what you REALLY want. When you do, you may be surprised at what immediately comes into your mind. Dr Joe Vitale, one of the contributors in ‘The Secret’, suggests that actually, we all want different things. When I asked myself what I really wanted, as suggested by the book, no thoughts of a mansion, a Ferrari, or a million dollars came to mind.
It is also understandable to see several of the successful contributors (success defined as having expensive house, great car and wife, multi-million dollar business etc.) as simply determined individuals who have got what they want through hard work. This misses the point of the book.
When you truly ask the universe for what you want with gratitude and, when prompted by your intuition (universal feedback) you take action, it doesn’t feel like work at all. In the book they call this Inspired Action; you’re in the divine flow of life, in ‘the zone’ if you like. Things happen…
For me, this is a great book. I know this stuff works. I have received so many examples of it happening in my life recently to be cynical about it. Thanks everyone. Rob
